Arkansas Encampment Information
The 2020 Arkansas Wing Summer Encampment for June 20-27th
has been CANCELED due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and the recent Department of Defence extension of the travel restrictions “Stop Movement Order” through 30 June 2020, Camp Robinson will no longer be able to support and host our Summer Encampment. This order would also greatly affect all planned activities at Little Rock Air Force Base. With these new circumstances and following national and state directives in the planning of summer activities, I am regretfully canceling the 2020 Arkansas Wing Summer Encampment. The safety and wellbeing of our Cadets and Seniors are my top priority and with the continued spread of the Covid-19 Pandemic it is best to not plan any more Arkansas Wing summer cadet activities at this time.
The Arkansas Wing is not planning to host a Winter Encampment. There are a few surrounding states within our Region that are already planning a Winter Encampment. We will encourage and support any cadets or seniors to attend those out of state winter encampments if they desire.
We are in discussions and looking at the possibility of hosting a small Type B Encampment, split over 2 weekends this Fall. This would be targeted for those Arkansas Wing cadets needing encampment credit to achieve their Mitchell before the Winter Encampment season. This will, of course, depend on the Covid-19 Situation at that time. We will communicate these details and decisions once they are finalized, but again we are only in the beginning discussion phase.
I want to say a special thank you to the Cadet Executive staff that have been faithfully meeting and planning the cadet side of things since December of 2019.
Cadet Commander: C/Maj Zachary Probus, 42nd Composite Squadron (Little Rock)
Cadet Deputy Commander: C/Maj Nick Sowerbutts, 40th Composite Squadron (Hot Springs)
Cadet Deputy Commander of Support: C/1st LT Katia Van Horn, Missouri Wing 126th Composite Squadron
They did an outstanding job, selecting the entire 40+ member Cadet Cadre, hosting meetings, preparing documents, and creating an atmosphere of excitement and ambition for their encampment staff. I am saddened that they are not going to be able to see this through. Even though Encampment will not take place this year because of the Pandemic, they will still be recognized as the Cadet Executive Command Staff for the 2020 Arkansas Wing Encampment. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication and I wish you all the best.
I also want to say thank you to all of my Senior Staff that volunteered to give their time to work and support encampment this summer. I appreciate it and I hope I can call on you next year.
Be on the lookout as we will soon start planning for the 2021 Arkansas Summer Encampment.
Captain Michael Probus
Arkansas Wing, Director of Cadet Programs (DCP)
